Sharon's Obituary

Sharon’s life began on October 3, 1944 in Dowagiac, the daughter of Nellie (Alexis) Wesaw and Fabian James. She was a member of the Pokagon Band of the Potawatomi Indians and worked as an executive assistant. Sharon played a crucial role in helping the Pokagon Band gain federal recognition from the United States. She loved to spend vacation time at Lake Michigan with family and savored good food. Sharon was a natural born golfer and loved to play golf. Her loving family includes her sons Sean T. (Tresa Susan) Winters of St. Joseph, and Tim Winters of Pensacola, FL, grandchildren Jack, Sam, and Carolyn Turak, siblings Loretta Yount, Lewis Wesaw, and Thomas Wesaw. Sharon passed away at her home on Monday April 9, 2012. She is preceded in death by siblings Reinhart Wesaw, Karen Taylor, James Wesaw and Marcia Wesaw and her parents. Her family will gather with friends on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the Pokagon Elder’s Hall (Townhall Road). She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery (Silver Creek).
