Leo's Obituary

Leo G. Swidwa, 74, of St. Joseph, died at his home Friday November 23, 2001 Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M Tuesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in St. Joseph where he was a member. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00 ?9:00 P.M. Monday, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery where there will be held Military Rites. Memorials may be made to Hospice At Home 2626 W. John Beers Rd., Stevensville, Michigan 49127 or Lake Michigan Catholic Schools 220 Church St. St. Joseph, Mi 49085. Leo was born on March 24, 1927 in Grand Rapids Michigan to Stanley and Helen (Liszewski) Swidwa. He served in World War II in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945 . On September 3rd 1949, he married Marge Konwinski, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Leo was self-employed from 1974 to 1990 when he retired. His business was L & M Distributing Co.; dealing in wholesales auto parts. Prior to that he was a territory manager for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co.. Leo lived in this area for 35 years. He was an usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church for the 35 years. For almost 10 years along with his wife, he was a volunteer Eucharistic Minister at Lakeland Hospital. Leo assisted the priests at funeral masses and also served at funeral dinners. Some of his most enjoyable hobbies were swimming at the W.C.A., enjoyed humming birds in his back yard, listening to music from his wonderful record collection, and traveling with his family. Along with his wife of 52 years, Leo is survived by four loving daughters Lee Swidwa of Elkhart IN, Alice (Jeff) Schmal of Sister Lakes, Mi., Diane Swidwa of Cadillac Michigan and Julie Swidwa of St. Joseph, MI.; four grandchildren John Clark of Grand Rapids, Dan Stuglik of Niles, MI. Maggie Clark of Stevensville, MI, Eric Stuglik of St. Joseph; Three brothers Edward , William (Theresa) and Stan (Sue) all of Grand Rapids and several nieces and nephews, Preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Judith
