Vickie Lynn Pitcher

Vickie’s life began on September 28, 1950 in Benton Harbor, the daughter of Edward and Caroline (Zeilke) Zacha. She was a 1968 graduate of Dowagiac Union High School. Vickie was united in marriage to Tim Pitcher on June 28, 1969 in Watervliet. She held many jobs throughout her life, starting as a receptionist for Consolidated Die Cast, manager of Pat Pitcher Plumbing, owner of Northland Meats, and co-owner of Tim Pitcher, Inc. in Sister Lakes but her greatest role was as a wife, mother, daughter and “gamma”. Over the years, Vickie cared for and loved a menagerie of animals from potbellied pigs, raccoons, chickens, birds, dogs and even a morning dove. She would take them in, nurse them to health and they were part of the family. Vickie was a team member for Relay for Life, past president of the Sister Lakes Elementary PTO, Sister Lakes Streetscape committee, and a Girl Scout leader. She met many wonderful and courageous people during her battle with cancer and always was the one to ask for and give hugs to both give and receive strength and healing thoughts. Her loving family includes her husband Tim Pitcher of Sister Lakes, daughter Michelle (Marty) Willis of Sister Lakes, son Keith Pitcher of Sister Lakes, and her much adored grandchildren Megan and Michael Willis. Vickie passed away on Sunday March 4, 2012 at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents. Her family will gather with friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where her funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. led by Reverend Heather McDougall of Keeler United Methodist Church. She will be laid to rest in Keeler Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Dowagiac Relay for Life (Sister Lakes Elementary Team).
