Darold's Obituary
Darold’s life began on August 16, 1924 in Watervliet, MI, the son of Thomas L. and Winifred (Sweet) Budd. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and played in the Marine Corps Band at Camp Pendleton, CA. Darold was employed by the Watervliet Paper Company for 34 years. He was united in marriage to the former Betty Gene Hawks in March of 1965 in Benton Harbor. Darold was a private pilot, and enjoyed talking with other pilots. He had attended Plymouth Congregational Church in Watervliet and Michiana Church of Christ in Dowagiac. Darold enjoyed playing his clarinet and played in the Cass County Council on Aging band. He is survived by his children Anne Nelson of Benton Harbor, David Budd of San Diego, and Patrick Budd of St. Petersburg, FL, foster daughter Christine Conklin of Dowagiac, step daughters Jean Watson of Buchanan, Sharon Brown of Plainfield, IL, and Beverly DeLong of Tennessee, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a foster sister Mary Lou Carlisle of Hartford, and three nephews Tom, Steve and Dave Swartz. Darold passed away on Thursday February 16, 2012 at his home. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty, son Duane Budd, and sister Mary Ilene Swartz. His family will gather at graveside on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Mission Hills Cemetery, Niles for a committal service and military honors led by Brother Gene Ellis.
