Joseph's Obituary
Joe was born on February 22, 1922 in Cassopolis Michigan, the only child of Raymond and Helen (Williams) Mallow. He was a graduate of Dowagiac Central High School and finished 3rd in the National Boys Jr. Tennis Championships held in Kalamazoo College while in high school. He was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago Il. He apprenticed at the McLauchlin Funeral Home before becoming a funeral director. He worked with Glen McLauchlin for 21 years. During that time he served as the Cass County Coroner. He was also involved in the automobile business in Dowagiac for many years and served as president of the Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce. He served in the United States Army during WWII in field artillery. He was wounded in France and was awarded the Purple Heart. Joe was a member of the Dowagiac Rotary Club; was a past president and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was an active member of the Dowagiac Elks Lodge #889 and served at Exalted Ruler. Joe and “Sis” have been lifelong members of the Federated Covenant Church in Dowagiac. He was also a longtime “member” of The Harvey’s/Caruso’s morning coffee group. His loving family includes his wife Anna Marie “Sis”Mallow. Married for 67 years, they have 2 children; a son Gary(Carol) Mallow,and a daughter Nancy (Dennis) Spinazze, 3 grandchildren Mark(Lisa) Spinazze, Jaime Anne(Kyle) Bennett, and Anne Marie Spinazze. In September he became a great grandfather to Mark & Lisa’s twin boys, Rafael & Samuel Spinazze. Joe and “Sis” grew up in Dowagiac and resided there until 2 years ago when they moved to the Chicago area to be close to family. He passed away early Thursday January 19, 2012 after a brief illness. In celebration of his life family will gather with friends at the Yazel & Clark Chapel on Sunday January 22, 2012 from 3-6. Funeral services will be held there on Monday January 23, 2012 at 11:00 A. M. with Pastor Jen Lowe of the Federated Covenant Church presiding. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s name can be made to the Federated Covenant Church at 202 Center Street Dowagiac, Mi. 49047 or to the Hospice Foundations of Northeastern IL. 405 Lake Zurich Rd.
