Margaret A. Hughes

Margaret’s life began on October 19, 1927 in Fourteen Bend, MO, the daughter of Ludy Garner. She was united in marriage to Alfred J. Hughes on March 22, 1945 in Caruthersville, MO. Margaret and Alfred were each other’s life loves and even after he passed away she remained his faithful wife. They met at a show in Hayti, MO and it was love at first sight for both of them. Margaret never met a stranger and enjoyed her friends. She was strong willed and feisty right to the end of her life. Margaret loved her family and especially her “grandbabies” were very special to her. Her loving family includes her children Patricia (Edward Fairbanks) Clemons of Benton Harbor, Alma Hughes of Harrison, AR, and Kenneth Hughes of Benton Harbor, son in law Bill Williams of Watervliet, grandchildren Bo Clemons of Benton Harbor, Becky Sheridan and Jay Hughes, both of Arkansas, great grandchildren Thomas and Tina, Skylar, Olivia, Andrew, Jackson, Christian, Katie May, Conan and great great grandchildren Gage, Raylynn and Abigail and special cousin Fred Garner of Fisk, MO. Margaret passed away on Wednesday December 14, 2011 at Lakeland Specialty Care in Berrien Center. She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred J. Hughes, daughter Priscilla “Susie” Williams, son Jerry Dale Hughes, and grandsons Roy Dale Clemons and Jerry Ray Hughes. Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. She will be laid to rest in Hamilton Cemetery, Decatur.
