Richard's Obituary

Richard’s life began on September 2, 1928 in Dowagiac, the son of Harry and Pauline (Snyder) Hadley. He is a 1946 graduate of Dowagiac Central High School. Richard served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War serving in Heidelberg, Germany with the 7888 Special Troops. He was united in marriage to the former Kay Belton on April 22, 1955 in South Bend. Richard was employed at ElectroVoice in Buchanan for 38 years serving as union steward. He was a great fan of baseball, playing for Dowagiac Schools and the Merchants league. Richard got to play ball with the great Ernie Banks while in the Army in Germany. He was a life long Chicago Cubs fan. Richard also enjoyed fishing from the age five and loved classic country music. His loving family includes his wife Kay Hadley of Dowagiac, daughters Suellen (Curtis) Gause and Janis (Gary Fernham) Hadley, both of Dowagiac, granddaughters Jessica (Michael) Rubino of Traverse City and Courtney ( Adam) Hemenway of Daytona Beach,FL, great granddaughter Vivienne Rubino, sister Linda (Tim) Brunt of South Bend, brother Gary Cross of Edwardsburg and his two cats Jake and Sammi. Richard passed away on December 2, 2011 at his home. His family will gather with friends on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. led by Pastor John Kasper. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Dowagiac District Library or Cass County Animal Control.
