Rita Jean Fleming

Rita’s life began on February 12, 1928 in Chicago, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Kane) Flaherty. She is a graduate of Visitation High School in Chicago. Rita was united in marriage to John R. “Buzz” Fleming on October 25, 1947 in Chicago at Visitation Church. She was employed by the Archdioceses of Chicago as a receptionist for many years. She was a parishioner in St. Cajetan Parish in Chicago and Sacred Heart of Mary Parish in Sister Lakes. Rita was a member of the Sacred Heart Alter Guild and the Dowagiac Moose Lodge. She loved to play bingo. Her loving family includes her children Jack Fleming of Sister Lakes, Dennis (Renee) Fleming of Chicago Ridge, and Kathleen (Larry) Muscarello of Chicago; two granddaughters Erin (Mike) Aichner of Wheatfield, IN and Kelly Muscarello of Chicago, great grandson Jake Aichner of Wheatfield, IN and one brother Tom (Virginia) Flaherty of Toronto, Canada. Rita passed away on Tuesday November 8, 2011 at the Timbers of Cass County. She is preceded in death by her husband Buzz in 1979, her son James Fleming and brother Leo Flaherty. Her family will gather with friends on Saturday from 11:30 to 12:30 at Yazel & Clark Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church by Father Kevin Covert. She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery.
