John's Obituary

John’s life began on February 4, 1929 in Big Bay, MI, the son of Ernest and Florence (Peck) McMeeken. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. John was united in marriage to the former Dorothy M. Kennedy on September 30, 1950 in Belding, MI. John was employed by the Michigan Department of Transportation for 29 years. He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sister Lakes and an avid fisherman and hunter. His family includes his children Michael McMeeken of Kalamazoo, Patrick (Sherryl) McMeeken of Dowagiac, Suzanne McMeeken, and Mark (Laura) McMeeken, grandchildren Blair, Patrick, Hazen, Taylor and Logan McMeeken and great grandson Blair McMeeken, two brothers Lawrence McMeeken of Lake City, MI and Robert McMeeken of Dayton, OH. John passed away at his home on Tuesday November 8, 2011. He is preceded in death by his wife, a sister Denise Powers, and brother Ernest McMeeken. His family will gather with friends on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where a rosary service will be held at 7:30p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. by Father Kevin Covert at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sister Lakes. He will be laid to rest with military honors in Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
