Rachael's Obituary

Rachael's life began on April 2, 1944 in Dowagiac, the daughter of Raymond, Sr. and Opal (Dudley) Dings. She was united in marriage to Floyd Simpson on October 22, 1960 in the parsonage of Calvary Bible Church in Dowagiac and enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Rachael was a housewife and worked alongside of her husband at their business, Simpson's Greenhouse. She loved cats and she never complained, even as she fought cancer. Rachael enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and painting ceramics. Her loving family includes her husband Floyd of Dowagiac, her father Raymond (Millie) Dings, Sr. of Niles, children Kenneth (Cynthia) Simpson and Mark ( Karen) Simpson, all of Dowagiac, grandchildren Jessica Simpson of Michigan City, Jennifer Simpson of Roscommon, Kevin Simpson, Lee Simpson, Samantha Simpson, Patricia Chamness and Lisa Littrell, all of Dowagiac and two step great grandchildren, sister Harriett (John) McElhaney of Pokagon, and brothers Raymond ( Sandy) Dings, Jr of Holland, and Jim (June) Dings of Niles and several nieces and nephews. Rachael passed away on Wednesday June 22, 2011 at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital. She is preceded in death by her mother Opal Dings. Her family will gather with friends on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where her funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. led by Pastor Stacey Wilder of Calvary Bible Church. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions in Rachael's name may be directed to the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.
