John's Obituary
John's life began on November 28, 1946 in Dowagiac, the son of Robert J. and Claire (Gawthrop) Weller. He was a 1965 graduate of Dowagiac High School and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War earning three bronze stars in for his service. He was employed by the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2002. John loved to play golf and anything having to do with Michigan State University. He enjoyed playing cards and being with his friends and family. He was a little league baseball coach when his sons were growing up and belonged to the Dowagiac Moose, Eagles, Elks and VFW Post # 1855. His loving family includes his children Marcy (Sean) Tinkey of New Haven, MO, Nate Weller of Dowagiac and Marc (Lori) Weller of Dowagiac, grandchildren Jacob Reeves, Griffin Tinkey, Molly Tinkey, Henry Weller, Cole Weller and Maggie Weller, sisters Mary Anne (David) Penwell of Buchanan, Rosanne (Jim) Solomon of Dowagiac, Deborah (Bill) Richardson of Dowagiac, and Kristi (Randy) Crockett of Benton Harbor. John passed away on Monday June 13, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Bobbe Jo Hall. His family will receive friends on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where his funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. led by Pastor Gene Ellis. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Dowagiac Moose Lodge.
