Barbara's Obituary
Jane's life began on July 29, 1930 in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of John Charles and Elizabeth Jane (Stanbery) Ritonen. After high school graduation in Conneaut, Jane moved to Los Angeles to pursue a nursing degree at Los Angeles General Hospital. After getting her RN in Los Angeles, she went to Walla Walla College in Washington for her Bachelors in Nursing and returned to Los Angeles to teach at LA General Hospital. She always dreamed of being a missionary nurse and was afforded the opportunity to go to Korea as the Director of Nursing at the SDA Seoul Sanitarium and Hospital. After two years in Korea, she met a young G.I. named George Haley from Michigan and they married on April 26, 1959 in Seoul. After 24 years in the mission field, Jane and George returned to America in 1981. She joined the nursing staff at Andrews University teaching there until 1984 when she was asked to be the Dean of Girls at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale, IL. She worked in Hinsdale over 11 years until she retired and moved back to Michigan in 1996. Jane was a member of the Glenwood Seventh Day Adventist Church. Her loving family includes her husband of 52 years George Haley of Sister Lakes, children Linda (John) Olakowski of Hinsdale, IL, Eric (Tonya) Haley of Oregon, Kirk (Lynda) Haley of Korea, and Adam (Nannette) Haley of Oregon, 11 grandchildren and her sister Dixie (Roy) Pratt of Ohio. Jane passed away at her home surrounded by family on Saturday May 7, 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents. Her family will gather with friends at a later date for a memorial service at Glenwood Seventh Day Adventist Church. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Adventist Disaster Relief Agency (12501 Columbia Pike, Silver Springs, MD 20904). Yazel & Clark Chapel is serving the family.
