Barbara Spencer

Barbara's life began on July 15, 1935 in Chicago, the daughter of Michael and Flavia (Kozicynski) Pietrusinski. She was a 1953 graduate of Aquinas High School in Chicago. Barbara was united in marriage to Norman Spencer on June 30, 1956 in Chicago. She was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sister Lakes, where she served on parish council and was active in many church functions. Barbara was a member of the Oak Park Women's Exchange and a volunteer for the Cass County (MI) Council on Aging. Barbara's greatest joy was her family which includes her husband of 54 years Norman Spencer of Sister Lakes, children Laura (Jerry) Creed of Berkeley, IL, Lisa (John) Dziergas of Darien,IL, Michael (Kim) Spencer of Villa Park, IL, Peter (Eileen) Spencer of Hinsdale, IL, Paul (Cheryl) Spencer of Lisle, IL, and Christopher Spencer of Dowagiac, grandchildren Michelle, Julia, Emily, Natalie, Phillip and David Spencer, and Timothy Dziergas, sister Eunice (Thomas) Conway of Rolling Prairie, IN and several nieces and nephews. Barbara passed away on Tuesday February 1, 2011 at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph. She is preceded in death by a granddaughter Bridget Spencer and a sister Elizabeth Pietrusinski. Her family will gather with friends on Friday from 4-8 p.m. (Michigan time) at Yazel & Clark Chapel where Deacon Frank Wesolowski will lead a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. (Michigan time) by Father Kevin Covert at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church (29961 Leach Road; Dowagiac, MI. 49047). She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
