Arnold's Obituary

Arnold's life began on February 1, 1920 in Cassopolis, MI, the son of David O. and Emilie (Miller) Garrelts. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Arnold was united in marriage to the former Helen Bell on June 13, 1942 in Douglas, MI. He was employed at Bendix and American Vitrified as a truck driver, then supervisor and trouble shooter for the company. He was a member of the American Legion and supported all veteran groups. His loving family includes his wife of 68 years Helen Garrelts, his children Arnold W. “Spud” (Barbara) Garrelts of Dowagiac, Kyle E. (Glen Richardson) Syx of Dowagiac, Sharon ( George) Cairns of Dowagiac, David Garrelts of Richmond, KY, and Alan (Patricia Wirick) Garrelts of Dowagiac; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and one brother James Garrelts of Niles. Arnold passed away on Saturday September 18, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek. He is preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. His family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where his funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. led by Pastor Justin Shepard. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be directed to any worthy veteran's organization.
