Wilbur's Obituary
Pete's life began on December 20, 1915 in Farmersville, Ohio, the son of Howard C. and Pearl L. (Leis) Weaver. He attended school in New Lebanon, Ohio and also Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. He served his country as an inspector in the Signal Corps for the Army Air Corps. He tested radio equipment for military jets including logging some flight time with Lear Jet founder, Bill Lear. Pete was a private pilot, who enjoyed flying and even landed and took off from the roof of a box car. Pete was united in marriage to the former Marion Paul on May 23, 1943 at the Federated Church in Dowagiac. He was the founder of “Pete†Weaver Insurance in Dowagiac and was a farmer. He was a member of the Federated Church in Dowagiac and sang in the church choir for many years. He also taught Sunday school at Federated Church and served on the church board. Pete was a member of the Southwestern Michigan College Community Choir. He was a charter member of the Dowagiac Lion's Club, a charter member of the Dowagiac Conservation Club, a member of the Elk's Lodge #889 and the Dowagiac Moose Lodge. His loving family includes three sons David (Marcie) Weaver of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Daniel (Bonnie) Weaver of Dowagiac and Gary Weaver of Dowagiac, grandchildren Matthew and Aime'e Weaver of Bloomfield Hills, Nissa (Lt. Col. Stephen) Van Riper of San Clemente, CA, Jamie (Charles, Jr.) Wimberly of Cassopolis, and Cory A. Weaver of Cassopolis, great grandchildren Ellis Van Riper and Catherine, Maxwell, and Zoe Wimberly and a sister Martha Weghorst.. Pete passed away on Thursday July 8, 2010 at Forest Glen Assisted Living. He is preceded by his loving wife of 65 years Marion Weaver in 2009, four brothers, and six sisters and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday led by Pastor Julie Greyerbiehl of the Silver Creek United Methodist Church. Pete will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Weaver Family Scholarship at Southwestern Michigan College or to the Alumni Foundation at Heidelberg College.
