Josephine Evelyn Powell

Josephine's life began on July 16, 1921 in Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Anna Mae Berryhill. She was united in marriage to James Rowling Powell in 1938. Josephine worked for several area companies including James Heddon and Sons, Goerlich Manufacturing and Rudy (Sundstrand) Manufacturing. She counted among her favorite things to do; travel with her husband of 61 years, playing cards, reading and going out to have lunch. Her loving family includes her daughter JoAn (Leon) Dodd of Dowagiac, Larry (Darlene) Powell of Dowagiac, grandchildren Christine (Bob) Cooper, Scott (Karen) Dodd, both of Dowagiac, Shawn (Terry Brown) Powell of Buchanan, Jamie (Rockie) Ward of Niles, step grandchildren Loren (Kathy) Willming of Dowagiac, and Greg ( Dina) Willming of Evansville, IN, great grandchildren Stephanie Cooper, Kristy Cooper, Bryce Dodd, Marissa Dodd, Taylor Dodd, Ashley (Isra) Hendon, Alisha Ranft, Michael Ranft, Ryan Ward, Joseph Ward, Terrell Ward, Krystle Willming, Ryne Willming, Jackson Willming, Joseph Willming, Emilie Willming, Maggie Willming, and Matthew Willming and several great great grandchildren, sisters Kathryn Sullivan of Pensacola, FL, and Jan ( Joe) Uvani of Rome, NY. Josephine passed away on Saturday January 16, 2010 at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center. She is preceded in death by her husband James R. Powell, and two sisters Freddie Mae and Hilda. Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where her memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. led by Pastor Jim Dunn of the Yore Community Church.
