Barbara Price, January 20, 1926 – November 25, 2009 Barbara Brelsford Price Deuel, 83, passed away peacefully at her Dowagiachome on November 25, 2009. She was born January 20, 1926 in Chicago. Her parents were Charles KellerPrice and Isadore Brelsford Price. The family moved to Dowagiac and lived at404 Center Street, then constructed their home Millview on the Mill Pondstarting in 1939. She was a Camp Fire girl and went to Camp Tannadoonah. AtDowagiac High School she worked on the yearbook, newspaper, and class plays,graduating magna cum laude. She later attended DePauw University andgraduated from Northwestern University. She was married February 19, 1949 to James Leslie Deuel ((divorced 1979) inSt. Paul’s Episcopalian Church in Dowagiac. The couple lived in Oak Park,Illinois where they were active in the First Baptist Church. In 1968 theymoved to Palatine, Illinois where they attended the First Methodist Church,and subsequently moved to Long Grove, Illinois. She worked for Motorolacorporate headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois for ten years in corporatepublic relations and advertising and then five years for the director of itsbrand-new corporate museum before retiring to Dowagiac in 1991. Over the years she participated in Friends of the Library, Girl Scoutleader, PTA, Cass County Civitan, P.E.O. (55 years in 2009), volunteer atMuseum of Southwestern Michigan College (16 years 2009), Prairie State CanoeClub (canoed, kayaked and camped with club members in several states,Boundary Waters in Canada, etc.), and Cass County Historical Society. Sheenjoyed travel to Europe, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, safari in Tanzania, andkayaking in Alaska. Her favorite hobbies included cooking and baking,photography, reading, bowling, bridge, and gardening. She loved dogs, cats,and horses throughout her life. She was predeceased by her children Thomas Keller Deuel and Jean Toby Deuelin 1972. She is survived by her brother, Charles Keller Price Jr. ofDowagiac; her daughters Nancy Deuel Toby of St. Michaels, Maryland and PeggyDeuel Harper of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren: Benjamin Harper,Nathaniel Harper, Bethany Harper, Joey Harper, Catherine Toby, and ElisabethToby; two nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 11:00 o’clockat the Yazel and Clark Chapelâ€Z, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac.
