Rose Mary Mangus

Goldie’s life began on June 19, 1928 in Grand Traverse County, the daughter of Pete and Nellie (Ance) Wesaw. She was united in marriage on December 31, 1957 in Benton Harbor to Leslie A. Mangus. She spent many years at Holy Childhood Boarding School in Harbor Springs. Goldie worked for Adams Electronics in Bangor, V-M Corporation in Benton Harbor and 19 years for Sealed Power Co. in Dowagiac, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and very active in the Elder’s Program, volunteering for tribal events and the Michigan Indian Elders Association. When she was younger, Goldie was involved in basket weaving and bead work. She enjoyed going to the casino, doing puzzles and traveling up north. Goldie’s family includes her children Linda Mangus of South Bend, Maxine Margiotta of St. Joseph, Yvonne “Petey” Boehm of Benton Harbor, Kathy (Bob) Grant of Dowagiac and Charles “Speed” Tindall of Dowagiac, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sister Jeannie (Ray) Mollett of Hartford, and two special people raised by Goldie, Debbie Mosier and Anita “Tammy” Morales. Goldie passed away on Saturday July 18, 2009. She is preceded in death by her husband Les in 1993, sisters Joyce Green and Geraldine Jack and brothers Gordon “Butch” Wesaw, Ronald “Bub” Wesaw and Glenn Wesaw. Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home where Deacon Frank Wesolowski will lead the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and traditional tribal ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church led by Father Robert Flickenger. She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery with a traditional tribal committal service. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Lakeland Hospice or the American Liver Foundation Michigan Chapter.
