Charles's Obituary
Chuck’s life began on April 18, 1922 in Cassopolis, the son of Anton and Helen (Sethiga) Karacson. He was united in marriage to the former Doris M. Ferguson on October 27, 1946 in Dowagiac. Chuck attended Edwardsburg Schools and he served his country proudly in General Patton’s 3rd Army Tank Battalion in France, Germany, Austria and Italy. Chuck was extremely patriotic and was proud of his service to country. He was a life member of the VFW Post #1855, American Legion Post #365, the Dowagiac Moose Lodge and a charter member of the Michigan Sheriff’s Association. He served as president of the Jefferson Township Board and a Jefferson Township Trustee for 12 years. He also served 13 years on the Niles Emergency EMT. Chuck retired from Miles (Bayer) Corporation in 1988 after 23 years of service. Chuck loved to travel and visit the casinos. He was well known for his nice cars and pristine lawn. He and Doris won many dance contests. Chuck enjoyed motorcycles, snowmobiling, and having a good time. He loved sunflowers and mums, raising many acres of both. Chuck was known as the “Sunflower Man” for most of his life. His loving family includes his granddaughter Dawn (Rex) Wyngarden of Holland, companion and good friend Ellanore Crispen of Edwardsburg, a sister Ellen Majeski of South Bend and many other good friends and family. Chuck passed away at his home on Monday May 18, 2009. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Doris in 2004 and his daughter Patty Gautreaux in 1991. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Chuck’s name may be directed to Hospice at Home or the Cass County Library.
