Betty Griffis

Betty’s life began on August 3, 1924 in Dowagiac, the daughter of Kenneth and Nina (Krohne) Suits. She was a graduate of Dowagiac Central High School and she attended beauty school to be a beautician. Betty worked for many years as a sales clerk for Oppenheim’s Clothing Store. She was united in marriage to Don Griffis on November 9, 1946 in Dowagiac. Her loving family includes her children Sandra (Oddil) Shaer of Vandalia, and Craig (Cindy) Griffis of Barrington, IL, grandchildren Julie (Rick) Keating of Fort Myers, FL, Jennifer Behnke of Dowagiac, Cole Griffis of Barrington and Carson Griffis of Barrington; three great grandchildren Sam and Grace Keating and Sophia Behnke and her sister Barbara Bandurske of Dowagiac. Betty passed away at West Wood of Niles Nursing Home on Saturday May 2, 2009. She is preceded in death by her husband Don in 1962, and two brothers William R. Suits and David Suits. Her family will gather at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home where her service will be led by Reverend John Kasper of Dowagiac First United Methodist Church. She will be laid to rest in Crane Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Dowagiac Public Library.
