Doris's Obituary
Doris’s life began on May 28, 1918 in Shelby, MI, the son of Amos V. and Carrie May (VanArschel) Phillips. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Mattix on June 26, 1937 in South Bend. Doris’s greatest joy was her family which includes her sons Garland (Karyl) Mattix of Kalamazoo, Wayne (Billy Francis) Mattix of Dowagiac and Mike ( Melonie) Mattix of Dowagiac, seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two sisters Algaria Kandelsdorfer of Niles and Ann Whitsell of Cassopolis. Doris passed away on Thursday April 16, 2009 at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in 1974, sisters Rowena Rock, Iola Starrett, Genevieve Vandenberg, LaVina Singleton and Arlean Northrop and brothers Robert and Kermit Phillips. Her family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home where her funeral will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. led by Pastor Larry Starrett. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the donor’s choice of charity.
