Dorothy's Obituary
Dorothy’s life began on March 9, 1917 in Dowagiac, the daughter of Leslie and Laura (Evans) Fletcher. She is a 1937 graduate of Dowagiac Central High School and attended Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University where she met her future husband John “Jack” Ames. Jack and Dorothy were united in marriage on June 27, 1941 in South Bend. Dorothy worked as a librarian at the Dowagiac Public Library. She had been involved in the DAR and attended the Dowagiac Kingdom Hall. She enjoyed sewing clothing, especially for the children and grandchildren, baking and reading. Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband of 67 years John “Jack” Ames of Dowagiac, children Bonnie (Brian) Cooper of Bolivar, NY, Mark (Carol) Ames of Grand Haven, Jody Ames of Lansing, Patricia (Gerald) Hoffman of Spring Hill, FL, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sisters Fern Fields of Jeanette, PA, Marjorie (Howard) Trumbull of Kalamazoo, and sister in law Madelyn Fletcher of Dowagiac. Dorothy passed away at her home on April 2, 2009. She is preceded in death by sister Carol Nickert and brother Marion Fletcher. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday April 7, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home where her service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery following the service.
