Mary Maedell Danzy

Maedell’s life began on November 29, 1925 in St. Martinville, LA; the daughter of John and Celeste (Chinier) Jacquet. Mary was united in marriage to Oscar LaSalle Danzy on February 12, 1952 in Galveston, Texas. Maedell spent much of her life as a homemaker and was involved in several activities. She was a member of the NAACP organization, a member of the Homemakers Club, a Cub Scout Den Mother, the Church Missionary Society and the Second Baptist Church. Her greatest joy in life was her family which includes her children Oscar LaSalle Hilton of TN, Oran (Cathie) Danzy of MD, Oscar Dion (Michelle) Danzy of CA, Reginald Danzy of SC, Darell Danzy of Dowagiac, Annie Lyles of FL, Bernadette (Michael) Evans of NC, Osceola Smith of SC, Josette (Jerry) Danzy-Moss of Benton Harbor, Wanda Pritchard of Dowagiac, 30 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Maedell passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Riveridge Manor in Niles, MI. She is preceded in death by her husband Oscar and her son John Jacquet. Maedell’s family will gather with friends from 11-1 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church in Dowagiac where her Home Going Service will be led by Rev. Tyrone Pace officiating at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest following the Home Going service at Mission Hills cemetery in Niles, Michigan.
