Richard's Obituary

Richard “Dick” Otto Hill Sr., 76, of Berrien Springs passed away Monday September 4, 2017 at his home. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. Dick was born in St. Joseph, MI on Sept. 27, 1940 to Bennett & Gladys (Beckman) Hill. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School class of 1960 where he was awarded All State for football. Dick had a passion for driving Semi’s across the roadways of America. This passion allowed him to own and operate Hill Enterprises of Southwest Michigan for over 40 years. His love for automobiles didn’t stop there; Dick won multiple drag strip races on Osceola Dragway, this is where his love for NASCAR developed. On December 18, 2008 he wed his longtime companion of 25 years, Doreen Kelm in St. Joseph. Dick enjoyed fishing, and spending time up at his cabin in Baldwin, and spending time with his friends at the American Legion in Baroda where he was a member. He is survived by his loving wife Doreen; daughters, Tami Hill of St. Joseph, and Traci (Eric) Stoub of Berrien Springs; sons, Richard (Marie) Hill, Jr of Dowagiac and Shawn (Shelley) Hill of St. Joseph; step-children, Ryan Kelm of Niles and Matthew Kelm of Berrien Springs; grandchildren, Hayden Stoub, Callahan Stoub, Colton Stoub, Ricky Hill, and Lauren Hill; brother Ben (Carole) Hill of Baldwin; aunts, Florence Hill and Leatrice Beckman, a nephew, two nieces and multiple cousins and dear friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and numerous beloved aunts and uncles.
