C.'s Obituary

Dr. C. Larry Allen, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away, Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Pine Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Stevensville.   Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph, with Fr. Thomas McNally officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may visit with the family Monday, March 24, 2014 from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Lake Michigan Catholic Schools. Those wishing to sign Larry’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.   Dr. Allen was born November 18, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan to Percy & Catherine Dorothy (Savage) Allen. He graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. On May 17, 1947, he married Harriette E. (Ginger) O’Donnell in Port Huron, MI. Larry was a member of the Sigma Phi Fraternity, Rotary, and the Knights of Columbus. He worked for 30 yrs. for Retail Credit Company as a claims director, mostly in Saginaw, MI and at age 55, went back to college and received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Dr. Allen had practices in both St. Clair and Wayland, MI. Larry had a lifelong love for singing and music, and was a member of the Fruitbelt Barbershop Chorus. He had a devout love for his Catholic Faith and was always sharing his faith with others. For the past 6 yrs. he was a faithful adorer at the Sacred Heart Adoration Chapel. Larry made the best of every situation, made it a point to always have fun and believed that Love is the most important thing in the world.   Larry is survived by his wife Ginger; his children Kitty (Larry) Girard of South Haven, Larry (Kathy) Allen of Spring, TX, Maureen (Matthew) Luxem of St. Joseph; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his brother Richard S. Allen of San Diego, CA; and numerous nieces & nephews. Larry had some very special friends/caregivers, Lori Bush and Lisita Wilson. He was preceded in death by 3 children and his sister Dorothy Allen.
