Laurence “Bub” Dale Banks, 88, formerly of Stevensville, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at the Hanson Hospice Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 11:00 A.M., at Riverview Park Christian Church, 2929 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor David Stout officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Bub was born on February 27, 1929, to Charles & Minnie (Thurston) Banks in Buchanan. He attended Benton Harbor High School. On May 3, 1952, Bub married Jeannice Blackwell in Benton Harbor. He joined the Naval Reserve and Honorably retired after 40 years of service. Bub worked with his father in their family business, Banks Construction, and eventually took it over. Bub was also a member of Stevensville American Legion Post #568.
Bub is survived by his children, Lynne (Al) Ellgren of Benton Harbor and Larry (Marie Poynter) Banks of Midland, MI; sister, Peggy (Frank) Alsup; sister-in-law, Jeannette Blackwell; Honorary Granddaughter, Sami Stevens & Great-grandson Declan; long time Navy buddy and friend, Lee Hornack; McDonald’s “Coffee Crew,” Nick, Ron, Nick, Sieg, Helmut and others; and special friends, Ginny Randall, Mildred Crum and Kay Schultz.
Bub was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeannice; and siblings, Charles “Bill” Banks, June Hahn and Robert Banks.
