Virdie's Obituary
Virdie Lee Scott, 88, formerly of Coloma, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2005, at Country Manor Care Center in Bridgman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2005, at 10:00 A.M., at Kerley-Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Dr. J. O. Hosler, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may call on Thursday, October 20, 2005, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to North Berrien Senior Center or St. Jude Children?s Hospital. Virdie was born on November 16, 1916, in Garner, Arkansas, to Walter and Eva (Carter) Scott. He married Bessie Privett in Blytheville, Arkansas, on December 28, 1936. Virdie was in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for Malleable Industries in Benton Harbor then Auto Specialties in St. Joseph until he retired. Virdie enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. Virdie is survived by his children-Lois (George Brumley) Rodda of Benton Harbor, Wilma Mabry of Watervliet, and Walter (Diane) Scott of Olive Branch, Mississippi; brother Elroy Scott of Benton Harbor; sister Wathena Allen of Locust Grove, Georgia; twenty-two grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Virdie was preceded in death by his parents; wife Bessie in December of 2000; son Cecil Scott in December of 1998; and sister Nadine Sterling in 1997.
