Betty's Obituary

Our beloved Betty Nell (Howe) Lahiff passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Golden Pines assisted living home where she was lovingly cared for. Betty was born on December 6, 1923 to Erwin and Louise (Hammer) Howe in Grand Rapids, MI. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert F. Lahiff, whom she married on September 11, 1943. Betty is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Gordon (Linda) Blackmer; two grandchildren, Lane & Jason Blackmer; two loving sisters Mrs. Jack (Virginia) Jarosch and Mrs. Robert (Doloris) Swart, both of Grand Rapids; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Betty was a kind, gentle, positive person, who was beloved by all who knew her. She was reserved about her many talents, including her beautiful singing voice, her beautiful work as a seamstress, and many artistic abilities. Her true goodness amongst us will be missed. A memorial will be held at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville on April 15, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Arrangements are by Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family supports donations made in Betty’s honor for Alzheimer’s research to the University of Michigan, Alzheimer’s Research Department, in care of Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home.
