Eleanor's Obituary
Eleanor H. Katowich, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2006, at her home with her family beside her.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, of which she was a member, on Tuesday, May 9, 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Glenn Rosenbaum officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery, Stevensville, MI. Visitation will be on Monday, May 8, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. Memorials may be made to the donors choice. Eleanor was born March 17, 1918, in St. Joseph, MI, to Edward and Augusta (Mach) Walters. She lived in this area all her life. She retired from Avion Coach Corp., in December of 1980. Eleanor married her husband Frank J. on April 23, 1934 in Crown Pointe, IN. She enjoyed visiting with her friends at the former Nicholsons Restaurant in St. Joseph, and most of all spending time with her family and her pets Peppy and Patty. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Eleanor will miss Shelly and her family and was grateful for the times they shared together. Her parents were the owners of the EF Walter & Co. Grocery Store located on the corner of Lyons Park Dr. (Pine St.) and Park St., in St. Joseph.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Roy) Bryant of Benton Harbor, and Barbara (Dennis) Grams of St. Joseph; 10 Grandchildren; 19 Great Grandchildren; and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. Eleanor is preceded in death by her beloved husband-Frank on June 12, 1994, her son-Ronald June 13, 2005, her brother-LaVerne Walters on June 27, 1974, and her parents-Edward Walters on July 17, 1970, and mother-Augusta (Mach) Walters on December 15, 1968.
