Alford's Obituary
Alford H. ?Al? Mack, 83 of St. Joseph, passed away
Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at his home. A Celebration of Life
Service will be held at 10 AM Friday at Starks & Menchinger
Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Msgr.
Eugene Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview
Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Coloma American
Legion Post 362, Hartford American Legion Post 93, VFW
Post 1137 Benton Harbor and VFW Post Watervliet. Friends
may call from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Al was born on February 10, 1919 in Los Angeles, California
to Charles & Irene (Galion) Mack. Al attended DePauw
University before serving his country during WWII in the
Army Air Corps in Okinowa and Japan. In 1947, Al and his
family moved to Michigan from Chicago and he started in the
insurance business. In 1981 he founded The Mack Insurance
Agency in St. Joseph. Al was a past president of the Twin
City Insurance Agents Association, a member of Berrien Hills
Country Club. He was one of the founders of the Benton
Harbor Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball League, and
was an avid Notre Dame Fan having attended games for the
last 45 years. Al loved to play golf but the greatest love of his
life was his family whom he adored. He will be dearly
missed by his family who cherished their time with him.
Al is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn McDonough
with whom he would have celebrated his 61st wedding
anniversary on June 26; two sons-John (Stephanie) Mack of
St. Joseph, David (Janet) Mack of St. Joseph; two
daughters-Diane (Ronald) Parker of Gull Lake, MI, Jan
(David) Schmaltz of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren-Mickey,
Cindy, Valerie, Anneliesa, Kristy, Kelly, Justin, Ryan, &
Brandon; two great grandchildren-Amber & Taylor; and one
brother-Charles Mack, Jr. of Oakland, CA. He was preceded
in death by his parents and a brother-Ralph Mack.
