Agnes's Obituary

Agnes R. Broderick, 79, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2003 at Caretel Inns of Royalton, in St. Joseph. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lucinda Lane, Watervliet with Rev. Donald Wieber officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Benton Harbor. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Agnes was born on the family farm in Hagar Township, January 9, 1924 to William and Mary (O?Brien) Broderick. She graduated from St. John?s High School in Benton Harbor in 1942. She continued her education at Western Michigan University, earning her bachelor?s degree in education. Agnes spent her entire teaching career at St. Joseph?s Catholic School in Watervliet, retiring after 35 years. She was an active volunteer with the Red Cross helping with their blood drives, the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen, and Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. Agnes was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph and a member of Alpha Beta Epsilon Sorority. Miss Broderick is survived by her brother-Edward (Geraldine) Broderick of Benton Harbor; two sisters-Margaret Cheevers of St. Joseph, Mary (Dick) McClure of Watervliet; and many nieces & nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her father William in May of 1948 and her mother Mary in February of 1972.
