Sally Pauline Brooks

Sally Pauline Brooks, 89, of Benton Harbor, passed away, Monday, February 25, 2019 at South Haven Nursing & Rehabilitation Community in South Haven. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Marlo Fritzke officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Those wishing to sign Sally’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Sally was born April 15, 1929 in Humrick, Illinois to Perry & Elsie (Fiscus) McCreary. On November 18, 1948, she married Carl K. Brooks in Anderson, Indiana. The family moved to Benton Harbor to make their home and Sally was employed by Heath-Zenith for twenty-six years, retiring in 1993. Sally was active along with her husband Carl for many years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer, participating in several leagues at Blossom Trails and Pipestone Creek well into her 80’s with her friends Sue Wood & Betty Forray. Sally was also a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed bowling, garage saling, & collecting gravy boats--in excess of several hundred, doing things for her family and working in her yard. Sally is survived by her son-Robert “Mel” (Judy) Brooks of Hartford; two granddaughters-Andrea (Dan) Whorton of Watervliet, Tracey (Jeff) Morse of Hartford; four great-grandchildren-Jason & Abby Whorton, Madison & Maddix Morse; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl on April 15, 2006, by three brothers-Addison McCreary, Wayne Nolan & Pete McCreary; and by sisters-Hazel Stamm, Sondra Phillips, Avis Lanham, Jenny Laury, Louise Andrew & Thelma Walker.
