Rodolfo's Obituary
Rodolfo Rodriguez, 84, of South Haven, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 15, 1928 to Bruno and Emilia (Sanchez) Rodriguez in Stockdale, Texas. Rodolfo served his country in the US Navy. Rodolfo was a long time resident of South Haven. He came this area with our family as a migrant worker. He quickly established himself as a successful farmer while holding a job at Bohn Aluminum in South Haven. In the Mexican community he was very much involved in the advancement of fellow Mexican Americans. He was co founder of Raza Unida, an organization where local families could come to have a good conversation and enjoy an evening of music and dancing. They also rented time in the South Haven radio station where they had bands come in and play mexican music for a few hours on Sunday.
Rodolfo enjoyed traveling and loved being around family.
He taught us how to enjoy working and showed us how to help others by his examples.
He will be greatly missed. After his farming, he with the help of the family built a home for us on 102nd avenue which we were all very proud of.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by a son – Tony Rodriguez.
Rodolfo is survived by his wife – Longina Rodriguez. 5 sons – Rudy Rodriguez, Jr., David Rodriguez, Daniel Rodriguez, and Victor Rodriguez. 8 daughters – Estella Schmidt, Linda Ferrell, Sylvia Madsen, Teresa Lorene Rodriguez, Rita Walker, Caroline Rodriguez, Diana Wentz, and Rose Povey. One brother. Three sisters. 34 grandchildren also survive.
