James Ellis Prewitt

James Ellis's Obituary

James Ellis Prewitt, 79, of Covert went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 24 at Highland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Highwood, Illinois.

He was born August 21, 1932 in Hickory Valley, Tennessee to Abraham Lincoln and Ida Victoria (Lake) Prewitt. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. James worked on the assembly line for Auto Specialist in St. Joseph Michigan. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building and putting together model cars. James helped build churches in the Covert area including Lily of the Valley, First Baptist Church and Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death along with his parents, and wife – Geneva Prewitt. Three brothers – Fred Prewitt, Homer Prewitt and Samuel Prewitt.

He is survived by his five children – John (Ada) Prewitt of Covert, MI., Felecia Prewitt of Kalamazoo, MI., Denise (Michael) Goolsby of Gurnee, Il., Doretha Prewitt of South Haven, MI., and Brenda (Lamarr) Lark of Green Oaks, Il. 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren,1great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. His former wife – Mary Prewitt also survives.

Wake will be from 12 - 1 on Saturday, April 28 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
