Nina Bittenbender

Nina's Obituary

Nina Bittenbender, 92, of South Haven died Monday, February 6, 2012 at River Ridge Retirement Community. She was born September 26, 1919 to Lloyd and Mildred (Cole) Smith in Benton, Pennsylvania. Nina married Clair “Bitt” Bittenbender on September 4, 1948 in Pontiac, Michigan. She worked as a salesperson at Inmann Jewelry. She also worked at Captain Nemo’s scooping Sherman’s ice cream for many years. Nina was a member of the Casco United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clair “Bitt” Bittenbender in 2006.

She is survived by her two sons – HC “Skip” (Donna Ching) Bittenbender of Honolulu, Hawaii and Michael (Laurie Howland) Bittenbender of Ann Arbor, Michigan, one daughter - Carolyn “Sissy” (Jack) Mulhern of Gambrills, Maryland. Three grandchildren Paul (Maureeen) Mulhern, Daniel Mulhern and Harrison Bittenbeder. Two great grandchildren – John and Anna Mulhern. Half sisters – Helene (Don) Spencer of South Haven, Michgian and Carolyn (Joe) Phillippe of Waterford, Michigan also survive.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 9, from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Casco United Methodist Church. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Dave Meister officiating. Private committal will be at McDowell Cemetery, Casco Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Casco United Methodist Church.
