Margaret "Geri"'s Obituary

Margaret “Geri” Christian, 87, of South Haven died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at her son’s residence in Beverly Hills, Michigan.

She was born February 19, 1924 in Rosebush, Michigan to Preston and Verna (Hislop) Johnson. She lived on the family farm until 1944 when she moved to South Haven where she was employed as manager for Western Union. In 1945, Geri married Clarence “C.B.” Christian of South Haven. She worked beside her husband as Vice-President of C.B. Christian Trucking and Moving Company. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she was vice-president of the Women’s Society, taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the South Haven Sweet Adelines and was an accomplished pianist.

Geri is preceded in death by her husbands, C.B., who died in 1988 and Edward McConnohie, who died in 2006. Her sister, Virginia Johnson and her brother, Norman Johnson also predeceased her.

She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Jenny) of Beverly Hills and Scott (Joni) of Palm Harbor, Florida; grandchildren, Scott Christian of South Haven, Jennifer (Scott) Cummings of Lusby, Maryland, Marcus (Amber) Christian of Traverse City, Guy (Shelley) Christian of Stockbridge, Georgia, Todd Christian of Dearing, Georgia, Morgan Christian of Saginaw and Stephanie Christian of Minden, Nebraska . Also surviving are great-grandchildren Danielle, Katherine, Sarah, Hailey, Cooper, Noah, Cameron, Bryce, sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Mt. Pleasant and seven nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Fisher officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. Memorial contributions can be made to the VFW of South Haven.
