Woody S.'s Obituary
Woody Sylvester Davis Sr., 84, of Covert, was born November 5, 1926 in Selma, Alabama to Jimmy and Georgia Davis. He was the first of four siblings.
In the summer of 1952 Woody moved to Chicago, Illinois where he married Arcola Gibson from Safford, Alabama. To this union five children were born – Barbara Ann, Virginia, Sylvia Renee, Denise Lynn and Woody Sylvester Davis Jr.
Woody joined St. James Temple where he served as a Deacon. He also sang with the group called St. James Harmonizers. In Chicago Woody worked for Reynolds Aluminum Co. and A & P bakery as a baker. Woody moved to Covert, Michigan were he worked for Covert Township, he was a volunteer fire fighter and were he joined Good Shepard Church pastured by Rev. John (Naomi) Weathersby. While at the church he met and married his wife Saddie. Woody made his transition on Thursday, August 18, 2011 in Covert, Michigan at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Preceding him into ever lasting life are his parents Jimmy and Georgia Davis, a brother – Henry Davis, one son – Woody S. Davis III, two grandsons – Donn Eric Davis and Tony Davis.
He leaves to cherish his memory one sister – Ruth B. (Wilbert) Scott of Shaker Heights, Ohio, one brother – Leon Davis, four daughters – Barbara Davis of Covert, Michigan, Virginia (Ronald) Stevens of Country Club Hills, Illinois, Sylvia (Robert) Johnson of Selma, Alabama, Denise Davis of Chicago, Illinois, one son – Woody S. (Opal) Davis Jr. or Covert, Michigan, two special sons – Wardell Allen and Lonzie (Pam) Taylor, two special daughters – Mary and Elizabeth Massey of Covert, Michigan, 15 grandchildren – Tyrone, Vincent, Pamela, LaDonna, Antwain, Venisha, Latresha, Jai, Shenise, Damian, Lashonda, Dannielle, Saleemah, Donn Eric and Tony, 13 great grand children – Erica, Tyara, Donn Eric Jr., Tony Jr., Diamond, Brittany, Tyron, Dasja, Landon, LaNuyia, David, Makhyla, Jaidyn., One great great grandchild and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends, and very special friends.
Wake will be Saturday, August 27 from 11 - 12 at the Second Baptist Church in South Haven. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday at the church.
