Grace's Obituary
Grace Barthel, 95, of South Haven died Sunday, June 5 at South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.
She was born January 19, 1916 in South Haven, Michigan to Harm and Clara (Donselar) Brinks. Grace graduated from South Haven High School in 1935. She married Charles Kenneth Barthel. Grace worked at McKenzie’s Bakery for 17 years retiring in 1981.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Charles Barthel who died in 1966 and her son – William Kenneth “Butch” Barthel who died in 2006. Sisters – Janet Novotny and Betty Springett and four brothers – Neil Brinks, Herman Jr. Brinks, Steve Brinks and Bob Brinks.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law – Elke Barthel of South Haven, Michigan . Two grandchildren – Sabine (Brendan) Callaghan of South Haven, Michigan and Andreas (Cheryl) Barthel of Holland, Michigan. Six great grandchildren – Alex Barthel, Cameron Callaghan, Patrick Callaghan, Tyler Barthel, Nicole Barthel and Stephanie Barthel. Three brothers – Richard ( Nancy ) Brinks, Gerald Brinks, and Bill (Gladys) Brinks all of South Haven, Michigan . Two sisters – Alta June Michaels of New Boston, New Hampshire and Marilyn (Ronald) Eldred of South Haven, Michigan also survive.
Graveside service will take place on Saturday, June 11, at 11:00 A.M. at Lakeview Cemetery with Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Kindly share your thoughts and memories on the family’s online guest book at www.FilbrandtFFH.com.
