Betty's Obituary

Betty Judd, 100, of Lawrence died at her home with her family on Sunday, April 24, 2011.

Elizabeth Wilcox Tillapaugh Judd, was born April 9, 1911 in Wolcott, New York to Dr. Fred Tillapaugh and Julia May Wilcox. In her youth Elizabeth attended Hicks One Room County School and then Paw Paw High School. She furthered her education at Battle Creek College to become a physical education teacher. Elezabeth married Kenneth Judd in 1941, and together they owned and operated Fuller Orchards, a centennial fruit farm, north of Lawrence, Michigan for 45 years. Betty taught in the Lawrence Public School system for 13 years and she served on the Lawrence Public School Board of Education for 14 years. Betty was also active in Girl Scouts for 20 years, serving as a director for part of that time. She also served on the boards of the Van Buren Youth Camp (Bloomingdale) and Child Guidance Clinic (Kalamazoo). She was very active in the Women’s Golfing League at Lake Cora Golf Course (Paw Paw). Betty recently celebrated her 100th Birthday with close family members.

Her husband – Kenneth and son – Mort Judd precedes Betty in death.

She is survived by her daughters – Julie Judd Edick and Jane (Richard) Easton. She is also survived by three grandchildren – David Hoenecke of Portland, Oregon, Cristin Easton of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Judd (Kate) Easton of Dublin, California.

A private graveside service will take place at Hicks Cemetery of Arlington Township in Van Buren County. A memorial service will be held at Engel Farms (formerly Fuller Orchards) on Saturday, May 28 at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Van Buren County Youth Camp, the Lawrence Alumni Association or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
