Charles Bergstrom

Charles Andrew “Chuck” Bergstrom, 83, of South Haven died Saturday, January 8 at home.

He was born July 24, 1927 in South Haven, Michigan to Oscar and Mary (Brown) Bergstrom. Chuck married Marion Empson on February 3, 1944 in LaPorte, Indiana. He was very proud of his work as a carpenter and millwright for many years with Union #898 of Benton Harbor. As a hobby, Chuck worked on his own family farm with cows, horses and pigs. His passion was farm history and learning about old time gas engines and tractors, particularly John Deere and International Harvester. Chuck was an original member of the Hartford Old Engine and Tractor Club and belonged to many other tractor clubs. Years ago, Chuck was a very active member of Maple Grove Bible Church .

He is preceded in death along with his parents by his son – Charles A. Bergstrom Jr. in 1995 and grandson – Jack Wilkinson in 2000.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years – Marion Bergstrom of South Haven. His daughter – Sandra (Bill) Warren of South Haven. Four grandchildren – Solina Warren, Anthea Wilkinson, James Wilkinson and Amy Barnes. Nine great grandchildren. Two brothers – James (Marie) Bergstrom of Stevensville, Michigan and Oscar (Wanda) Bergstrom of South Haven, Michigan . Two sisters – Christine (Ed) Kozlowski of South Haven, Michigan and Carol (Duane) Noykos of Allendale, Michigan . Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be from 4 – 6 on Thursday, January 13 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Dave Meister and Pastor James Sumner officiating. Burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Hartford Old Engine and Tractor Club or the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
