George Roberts

George Roberts, 69, of South Haven died Friday, December 17 at home.

He was born January 8, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Elizabeth (VanWyk) and Stephen Roberts. George served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. George worked as a boiler maker, farmer, truck driver, welder and crop duster. Most recently he worked as an auxiliary operator at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant. He then was the construction Forman for the Covert Gas Generating Plant. George was a member of The Loyal Order of the Moose, South Haven Rotary Club. He also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity constructing homes. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and had taken several motorcycle trips including trips to Central America, South America and Australia.

He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter – Teresa K. (Webster) Wensley and grandchild – Heather J. Page.

He is survived by one son – Tom (Barb) Webster of Traverse City, Michigan. Two daughters – Stephanie (Chris) Maynard of Running Springs, California and Kathy (Webster) (Robert Atkinson) Page of Conyers, Georgia. Four grandchildren – Jessica (Shannon) O’Brien, Carley Wensley, Petre Wensley -Hailey and Drew Page. Two great grandchildren – Cameron O’Brien and Heather W. Page. Former wife – Shirley Roberts. Three sisters – Joyce Bolthouse of Marne, Michigan, Sherri (Nick) Huderman of Hudsonville, Michigan and Jan (Ed) Wierenga of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 19 from 2:30 – 4:30 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home with services beginning at 4:30 with Pastor Tim McGee officiating. A dinner will follow the services at the South Haven Moose Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to South Haven Rotary Club, South Hospice of Holland or Habitat for Humanity.
