Ronald Gary Choura, 61, formally of Haslett, Michigan died suddenly Sunday, December 5th, 2010.

He was born April 26, 1949 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Charles and Elsie (Machac) Choura. Ron graduated from Belleville West High School in 1967 and was a 1971 electrical engineer graduate from the University of Missouri – Rolla.

Ron was active in the Government and telecommunications industry for more than three decades. He was a longtime Michigan State University adjunct faculty member in the Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media Department and recently retired as a Departmental Administrator for the Michigan Public Service Commission after 37 years of service.

In life, Ron was an amazing friend, husband, father and grandfather. Everyone benefited from his optimistic personality and infectious enthusiasm for life. Although he never turned down an opportunity to go fishing he was known for his generosity, fierce work ethic, remarkable reliability and his aptitude for thinking outside the box. As a father and grandfather “Pop” strived to attend every family event possible and was happiest just being present.

He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Choura.

He is survived by his wife of forty years Nancy (Eichmann) Choura of South Haven, Michigan. Three children, Katie (Joe) Branch of Muskegon, Michigan. Todd (Kristina) Choura of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Emily (Eric Austin) Choura of Chicago, Illinois. Four grandchildren, Stella & Charlie Branch and Norah & Dylan Choura. His mother, Elsie Choura of Mascoutah , Illinois. One sister, Carole (Jerry) Middendorf of Venedy, Illinois. An uncle, Adolph Choura of East St. Louis, Illinois. Sister-in-law, Susan (Michael) LeCrone of River Forest, Illinois. Two nieces and one nephew also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 10th at 1pm at University United Methodist Church at 1120 S. Harrison Rd. East Lansing, MI 48823. A visitation will precede the service starting at noon. In addition, a reception will follow the service beginning at 2:30 pm in the Kellogg Center on the campus of Michigan State University.
