Franklin's Obituary

Franklin Meredith Schurr, 85 of South Haven, Michigan died on November 13, 2010 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in South Haven.

He was born on April 8, 1925 to Meredith and Evelyn (Newton) Schurr in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Frank married Loretta Wagner on May 15, 1948 at St. Basil Catholic Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. During his lifetime he worked for the City of South Haven as assistant chief engineer at the power plant, was an electrician with Harsch Electric, owned and operated Phoenix Inn and Jericho Grocery.
Frank also served as a Commissioner for Van Buren County, his last two years as board chairman. Frank was also the Director of the VanBuren County Animal Shelter. Frank enjoyed making maple syrup, bee keeping and tending to his peach orchard. He would consider himself a hobby farmer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one son: Robert Schurr and one brother: Donald Schurr.

Frank is survived by his wife Loretta Schurr of South Haven, MI, his daughters: Donna (Richard) Retberg of South Haven, MI., Dawn (Rick) Olsen of San Antonio, TX., and Denise (Brian) Wilder of Pelkie, MI., and one son: Richard Schurr of Walnut Springs, TX 12 grand children, 9 great grand children. One sister, Jaunita “Mickey” Overhiser of South Haven.

Memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to South Haven’s Hospice at Home. Burial will take place at Chambers Cemetery, Geneva Township. Kindly share your thoughts and memories on the family’s online guest book at www.FilbrandtFFH.com.
