Harry Joseph's Obituary

Harry Joseph Campbell, 79, of Grand Junction, died October 1, 2010 at South Haven Community Hospital.

He was born October 13, 1930 in Gary, Indiana to Harold Hucker and Velma (Ponder) Campbell. Harry graduated from High School in Rhinelander, Wisconsin in 1949. He attended the University of Wisconsin. Harry served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War as a radar systems repairman. He also was on the Army basketball team. Harry married Dolores Ann Mysliwiec on June 14, 1958 at St. Mary’s Church in Hammond, Indiana. Harry worked for the IBM Company as a business machine customer engineer from 1956-1964. He then worked at Meade Electric where he became a member of the IBEW local 697. Harry worked for several electrical contractors in various capacities, as electrician, project estimator and project manager until his retirement in 1992. Harry and Dolores lived in several locations in Indiana and Illinois, but will always have a special place in their hearts for Saddle Lake in Grand Junction, Michigan where they would spend their summers. In the mid-1970’s, Harry and Dolores bought a blueberry farm in Gobles, Michigan and became successful part-time farmers. The entire family spent their summers working on the farm in every capacity. At the end of the day on the farm, Harry and his family would go back to their cottage on the lake, fire up the grill, and enjoy another Michigan summer evening together. Harry enjoyed card games, swimming, fishing, campfires with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years – Dolores Campbell of Grand Junction, Michigan. Daughter – Carol (Dan) Taylor of Breedsville, Michigan and son – Dave (Lynn) Campbell of Crete, Illinois. One grandson – Matt Campbell and one granddaughter - Nicole Campbell also survive.

Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:30 am on Thursday, October 7 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 11:30 at the funeral home with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society.
