Hazel Poindexter

Hazel Florence Poindexter, 95, of South Haven died Thursday, September 2 at Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born October 11, 1914 in South Haven, Michigan to William and Ida (Merker) Dusenbury. Hazel graduated from South Haven High School in 1932. She married Myles Poindexter on October 12, 1935 in South Haven, Michigan. Hazel worked as an inspector for South Haven Rubber Company for 16 years retiring in 1976. Hazel was active in the group, Visually Impaired People. Hazel joined Packard Gospel Center in 1950, later known as Maple Grove Bible Church, presently Anchor Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Missionary Circle for 30 years and also served as teacher and superintendent. Besides church Hazel enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing and music. She most enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Myles Poindexter who died in 1994. Sister – Marquerite Dusenbury in 2005 and granddaughter – Deborah Pratt in 1990.

She is survived by four children – Janice Pratt of South Haven. William (Bonnie) Poindexter of Portage, Michigan, Max (Kathy) Poindexter and Nancy (Chuck) Knapp both of South Haven. Eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be from 10 - 11 on Tuesday, September 7 at the Anchor Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. at the church with Pastor Theron Crawford officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Anchor Baptist Church.
