Rachel's Obituary
Rachel Freeman, 92, of Kalamazoo formerly of Covert, died Tuesday, July 6 at Tendercare of Westwood in Kalamazoo.
She was born on April 4, 1918 in Lexington, Mississippi to James and Rosa (Torrey) Lofton. Rachel married George Freeman on March 12, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. She owned and operated the Freeman Blueberry Farm in Covert for over 30 years. Rachel enjoyed gardening, baking and was famous for her 7-Up cakes.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband – George Freeman who died in 1982, her siblings – Jane Hawkins, Fannie Proctor, Charles, Joseph and James Lofton, and one grandson – George Freeman III.
She is survived by her three children – Doris (William) Moore of Kalamazoo, Michigan, George Freeman Jr. of Muskegon, Michigan and Raymond Freeman of Covert, Michigan, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. One brother – Peter Lofton of Chattanooga, Tennessee and a host of friends and family also survive.
Wake will be Saturday, July 10 from 10 – 11 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Covert Cemetery. Kindly share your thoughts and memories on the family’s online guest book at www.FilbrandtFFH.com.
