Myrtle's Obituary

Myrtle A. Smith, 100 1/2, of South Haven died Saturday, June 5 at her daughters home in Niles, Michigan.

She was born December 6, 1909 in Marcellus, Illinois to Franklin and Mary Ann (Cogdal) Corrie. Myrtle married Arthur Smith on September 7, 1929 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was a homemaker of many talents, sewing lot of the families wardrobe, quilts for her children and grandchildren. Knitting and crocheting Afghans and sweaters for her children and precious grandchildren. Myrtle knew she was blessed by knowing her great grandchildren. She loved it when they came to see her and gave them big hugs! She was very happy to have several nieces and nephews visit her recently also. Myrtle’s family and a particular neighborhood family who watched over her and would share a piece of salmon with her after a successful fishing trip were very important to her and her husband. Myrtle was a member of the First Congregational Church U.C.C. of South Haven.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Arthur Smith who died in 1994. Her sisters – Eva Powers, Marie Johnson, Carolyn VanZant and Jean LaVeigne. and one brother - Frank Elsworth Corrie Jr.

She is survived by her children – Elaine M. (Mark) Thompson of Niles, Michigan and James F. (Mildred) Smith of Mutual, Oklahoma. Six Grandsons, one grand daughter and twelve great grandchildren.
