William "Bill's Obituary

William “Bill” Eric Schewe Sr., 85, of South Haven died Tuesday, March 30 at Bronson Methodist Hospitel in Kalamazoo.

He was born September 12, 1924 in Volpke, Germany to Emil and Anna (Dzivdzia) Schewe. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his service in WWII, he served in the Michigan National Guard. Bill married Ellen Godlew on July 24, 1976 in South Haven, Michigan. Bill worked as a molder for Bohn Aluminum for 28 years retiring in 1986. He enjoyed wood working, gardening and feeding the birds. He also prepared legal documents at the Self Help Center in South Haven.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by his two grandsons – Scott Gullion and Ben Schewe. One brother – Arthue Schewe and one sister – Mary Berguson.

He is survived by his wife – Ellen Schewe of South Haven, Michigan. One daughter – Carolyn Zmuda of South Haven, Michigan. Five sons – Eric W. (Jacqueline) Schewe of Bangor, Michigan, WM "Rick" (Alta) Schewe Jr. of Grand Junction, Michigan, Steven (Carol) Schewe of Pullman, Michigan, John E. Schultz of Paw Paw, Michigan, and Randall (Bonnie) Schultz of Coloma, Michigan. 17 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. One brother – Walt (Emily) Schewe of Delton, Michigan and one sister – Marge Odebretch of South Haven, Michigan. Sister-in-law – Betty Schewe of South Haven, Michigan also survives.

Visitation will be from 1-2 on Monday, April 5th at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home Burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens.
