Genevieve's Obituary

Genevieve Agnes Farrell, 93, of South Haven died peacefully at home Monday evening, April 27, 2009. She was born January 3, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Allena (Winder) Farrell. In 1921 her family moved to the farm in Casco Township. Upon graduating from South Haven High School in 1934 she was stricken with bacterial endocarditis, rendering her bed ridden for many years. Without the help of sulfur drugs, antibiotics, or penicillin, she beat all odds and survived through the miracle of prayer. She always looked for the good in people and enjoyed all things in nature, particularly her rose garden and the moon lit sky. She began a 40 year bookkeeping career at Fleming Brothers Oil Company by counting gas rationing stamps during World War II. Genevieve was a tireless volunteer. She pushed the Hospital’s Shoppers Cart for the exercise and the social fellowship. She delivered mobile meals, visited the sick, and helped the grieving. She was a great baker and loved bringing her gifts to people. She was a friend to all and “Aunt Gen” to everyone. She was a lifelong member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles, her sister Beatrice, her nephews Michael Farrell and Michael Osburn, and her nieces Aleta Anne Kleinerman and Nicolette Allen.

She is survived by her nephews Charles Donovan, Barry (Sue) Donovan, Michael Donovan all of South Haven and Andrew Kleinerman of Santa Cruz, CA. Nieces Kathleen Osburn of Three Oaks, MI and Louise (Bruce) Wilkens of Rifle, CO. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 30 from 5 – 8 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at St. Basil Catholic Church at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Basil Education Endowment Fund. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. Kindly share your thoughts and memories on the Family’s online guest book at www.FilbrandtFFH.com.

The family is being helped by the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven 637-0333.
