Melvin's Obituary
Melvin Murray, 79, of Covert returned to God on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at South Haven Community Hospital.
He was born November 22, 1929 to the union of William Murray and Viola Jones in Sugarlott, Mississippi. He was the third of 5 brothers. He migrated to Chicago and worked for the City of Chicago and married Agnes Turks in which 3 children were born. In 1980, Melvin moved to Covert with his present wife from which came 5 children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers –Luther, Henry and Clyde. Sister-in-law – Viola Lofton.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving and caring wife – Anna Murray of Covert, MI. 8 children – Viola (Conrad) Dillon of Chicago, IL, Gregory (Stephanie) Murray and Ricky Murray both of Pittsburg, PA., Odell (Patricia) Tanner of Covert, MI., Juanita Patton of Lisle, IL., Melvin Tanner of Covert, MI., Minister Sharon (Pastor Andre) Massenburg of Matteson, IL., and Eugene (Shannon) Tanner of Holland, MI. He also leaves behind one brother – Arthur (Mattie) Murray of Robbins, IL. 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. 3 sister-in-laws – Lillie Preston and Joyce Bailey of Collins, MS., Mattie Murray of Robbins, IL A host of nieces, nephews family and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Covert with Pastors Andre and Adrian Massingburg officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:30 until the service begins at the church. Burial will take place at Covert Cemetery.
